Who is eligible for hospice?

"Hospice care is appropriate for people who have a terminal illness with a prognosis of approximately six months or less and who are no longer seeking a cure. Patients are eligible regardless of race, religion, age , sex, ethnic background, ability or inability to pay,"  Jannette Weber, Hospice Community Liaison.

How Does Hospice Care Begin?

Anyone can make a referral for hospice care – a physician, friend, family member, or neighbor. Hospice at The Chaplaincy staff members are available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Once a referral is made, a Hospice Chaplaincy representative will schedule a visit with the patient and/or their loved ones, to assess the best type of care options available. Usually, care can begin within a day or two of a referral.
