Spiritual Caregiving Program

The Chaplaincy's Spiritual Caregiving Program is designed to train and equip church-sponsored volunteers to provide spiritual care among congregants and in community settings such as nursing homes and homeless shelters. |
Why?
- Many people in care facilities never receive a visit from family or friends during their stay
- Churches want to provide more care and comfort to their congregants during times of illness or crisis
- Churches want to out reach to the isolated within our community
Who?
- This program is for those who have the desire and time to minister to persons in spiritual distress and relational isolation
- Participants for the Spiritual Caregiver Program will be recommended by their church or group
What?
- 10 week training course includes 10 classroom sessions and 3 supervised clinical experiences
- Initial class size will be limited to 15 students
- Ongoing support will be available through regular support meetings

- Foundations of Chaplaincy - philosophy and theology of spiritual care and spiritual distress
- What to expect during a caregiver visit
- Tools of spiritual care
- Boundaries - knowing and recognizing limits
- Listening skills
- Process of discerning call
- Spiritual pain
- Theological reflection and integration
